Barry Foster has been our secretary for the last year, making a big impact upon our club and helping us improve.

His responsibilities as secretary tend to be:

  • Being the first point of contact for club enquiries

  • Organising and attending key meetings (including Annual General Meetings)

  • Taking and distributing minutes

  • Delegating tasks to club members

  • Dealing with all correspondence

  • Attending to affiliations

  • Ensuring insurance is up to date and relevant

  • Maintaining up to date records and reference files

  • Arranging handover or succession planning for the position

  • Taking responsibility for personal conflicts of interest and declaring, recording and managing these appropriately

Grace Delaney-Segar

Media Manager

Grace has taken on the role of club media manager.

Her responsibilities as media manager tend to be:

  • To grow and raise the image of the club through the use of various forms of media.

  • Social Media Management: Responsible for growing and maintaining our social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitch & TikTok).

  • Community Development: Develop, build and  manage existing and new communities links within local community.

  • Reporting and Analysis. Create marketing reports , player reports, club reports for internal use to help further develop the club and its members.

  • Advertise upcoming sporting events.

  • Secure sponsors for sports teams and specific events

  • Respond to external media questions.

Anna Leyland

Fixtures Manager

Anna has taken on the role of Fixtures manager.

Her responsibilities as Fixtures manager tend to be:

  • To manage the availability of the club pitch

  • To maintain the clubs fixtures

  • To liaise with league secretaries on changes to fixture dates and times

  • Arrange fixture lists that match the club’s ability and strength in depth.

  • Register teams in competitions.

  • Organise officials and facilities for games.

  • Supply both teams with directions, timings and captain’s numbers.

  • Liaise with home teams, opposition, leagues and governing bodies.

  • Reschedule postponed matches.

Paul Parr

Chairperson

Paul has played at a number of clubs in the North West in his 30 years and has finally found a home here at Wigan HC. Paul also plays Masters hockey for Wales.

The main responsibilities of our club chairperson are:

  • Support the efficient running of the club

  • Chairing regular committee meetings and the Annual General Meetings (AGM)

  • Helping others to understand their roles and responsibilities

  • Recruiting new committee members, taking into consideration skills, experience and diversity

  • Communicating with various members within the club

  • Being actively involved in creating and following a Club Development Plan

  • Representing the club at local and regional events

  • Assist the club to fulfill its responsibilities to safeguard children at club level

  • Ensuring an understanding of the legal responsibilities of the club to which the Club complies

  • Taking responsibility for personal conflicts of interest and declaring, recording and managing these appropriately

Jemma Ashcroft

Vice Chairperson

  • Support the Chairperson with the efficient running of the club

  • Helping others to understand their roles and responsibilities

  • Recruiting new committee members, taking into consideration skills, experience and diversity

Tom Hickson

Welfare Officer

Tom has been our Sports club Welfare Officer for a number of years, alongside Jessica Daly. Their main responsibilities are:

  • Assist the club to fulfil its responsibilities to safeguard children and vulnerable adults at club level

  • Assist the club to implement its safeguarding children and vulnerable adults plan at club level

  • The first point of contact for everyone where concerns about a children’s or vulnerable adults welfare, poor practice or abuse are identified

  • Implement the club’s reporting and recording procedures

  • Maintain contact details for the local children’s social care department, the police and local safeguarding children board

  • Promote the club’s best practice guidance/code of conducts within the club

  • Represent welfare on the club’s management committee

  • Ensure adherence to the club’s safeguarding children training

  • Ensure appropriate confidentiality is maintained

  • Promote anti-discriminatory practice

  • Take responsibility for personal conflicts of interest and declaring, recording and managing these appropriately

Jessica Daly

Welfare Officer

Jessica Daly has been our joint Welfare Officer for the last year alongside Andy Moss. Their main responsibilities are:

  • Assist the club to fulfil its responsibilities to safeguard children and vulnerable adults at club level

  • Assist the club to implement its safeguarding children and vulnerable adults plan at club level

Sean O'Neil

Social Secretary

Sean has been with the club now for 5 years. During this time Sean has volunteered in various roles throughout the club. Sean is currently the clubs social secretary and is responsible for,

  • Organising Club Functions

  • Promoting Club Functions

  • Arranging social functions for the Hockey Section

Sandy Fiddler

Junior playing coordinator

Sandy has been with the club now for a number of years. During this time Sandy has developed our clubs junior section to a thriving and fun environment for our junior players at the club. Sandy is responsible for,

  • Organising junior tournaments and matches

  • Promoting Junior hockey at the club

  • Organising junior club coaching 

  • Providing support for our junior players
